Farewelling a London Summer

Apologies in advance this is a very self indulgent post which I'll use to remind me about the city I call home.  But if you live or love London you'll understand why its nice to take a step back and remind yourself   of its opportunities.

One of the things I love most about living in London is the summer season. The long evenings, the abundance of activities and the parties. This summer has been no different but feeling I need to encapsulate every moment to savour as I head off on the road of adventure.

I have had the great pleasure of enjoying some of London's best treats this year and here are a few highlights

Seeing the Killers and the Kaiser Chiefs in Hyde Park in constant rain with my dear friend Fancino (fast followed by cocktails in teapots and fine china cups in a Soho Arts centre)

Boys finals on Court 1 at Wimbledon with my old tennis knock about mate Nic and her other half Cameron

Watching my nephew Joshua adapt to city life so quickly and playing with squirrels in Green Park  - the love for a joyful squirrel always brightens my day

Dinners at my local for a feast for fush'n'chups Gordan Ramsay style with all of my visitors - Amy, Nic & Cam, Steph, Ants & Joshua (photo's neglected for the taste sensation due to general hunger/enthusiasm to chin wag!)

Running the British 10k with my friends - albeit a terrible race for me - but the experience of sharing with friends is always a joy or at least a pity party! PW's not acceptable for the next race folks.

Farm visits on my street - Farm Fresh eggs on your street and veggies from the allotment is really a fact one should relish learning about!

And some other non-photogenic moments with the London Electronic and Dance Festival at my beloved Victoria Park with my Gore crew & more,  30th birthdays, Pasta Parties and 1st birthday's, watching my neighbourhood be knocked down for redevelopment and hanging out with my cousin Julie and her boys on the South Bank over from Berlin for school holidays (where I am writing this post!) .

These opportunities have been amazing and I really do love London. But mostly its the people I share these moments with that make the fun. I will miss you all on my travels and will undoubtedly think of each of you as I see a sight and think "hey, So-and-so would love this" or "oooo, I bet So-and-so would hate this!"

I am just so very lucky.

Breath Taking Everest

I have always wanted to go to Everest Base Camp to see what the closest to the top of the world must be like. My big sister Fiona made it there some 14 years ago on her way to London. She had run into Ants (her old school friend and now my brother-in-law) in the streets of Kathmandu and later met Simon (her husband) after her trek in Chitwan National Park. She had also bought a painting of the beautiful Ama Dablam  (mother mountain for Mum) with Tengboche Monastery in the foreground and it sits pride of place in our family lounge. As a result Nepal and the Everest region screams family adventure to me.     After a couple of days in Kathmandu during a strike (the country is in massive flux as it does not have a constitution or a governing majority) I met Dustin and Elan near my hostel telling them I was keen to do the Everest Base Camp trek. I had been recommended the Anapurna circuit time and time again but with recent deaths due to slips and the coming m...

All Creatures Great and Small

Running my first half marathon in 2010 What always strikes me when I attend a race of any distance, is how it takes all shapes and sizes, creatures great and small. And I am no exception. There are people who are young and old, of every race and religion, men in turbans, women in headscarves, topless and toned, slim and leggy, rotund and rouge red, bouncing, compact and flailing. But like all things in life, if You put your mind to goal then it doesn't matter what your genetic code you're going to do your best to complete that challenge. I had lunch yesterday with a dear friend and we discussed how we describe our body shapes on dating websites. She is a completely different shape to me exceeding 5'11 and with a booty I think JLo would covet. I am 5'6 with all the right curves in all of their respective places (I wish I had the confidence to say all the right places !). We both described ourselves as curvy....yet she thinks I'm skinny, sporty skinny but ski...
